A quiet start
When one adolescent participant joined a HALI Safe Space, she had limited access to learning and found it difficult to express herself in group settings. Household pressures and interrupted education had weakened her confidence and connection to learning.
Learning, encouragement and practice
Weekly literacy, numeracy, life-skills and mentorship sessions gave her a consistent place to learn, interact with peers and practise speaking. A trained female mentor encouraged her to participate, set goals and see education as a realistic part of her future.
Growing participation
Facilitators observed that she began contributing to discussions, answering questions and helping other girls during group activities. Her experience illustrates how safe learning environments can support confidence and educational aspiration alongside academic skills.
The story reflects programme observations from the February to July 2026 reporting period. Final programme outcomes will be assessed after endline data collection.
